Every city has a character, identity and past that make it unique, in other words cities are like living individuals with their own personalities. Through the history, İzmir has been an important mediterranean city. Its close position to the ancient civilizations and its gulf created an identity which are fed by different cultures and people for many centuries so it became a cosmopolitan city. The port and the old industrial area behind it have been important roles in its character and they have created many layers and patterns in the city. Also this zone has changed through the history as every cosmopolitan city has been changing and transforming. Now the old industrial area is facing a new transformation and the city has expectations from this area. The project area is in the junction point of these different parts of the city and it can be both a trigger and transition point that can influence the areas being transformed.
